Sensitivity Training

The Possibilities Become Limitless as We Start Understanding Each Other

  • OBRF serves communities hailing from 60+ nations and ethnicities.

  • Majority of OBRF's beneficiaries have families of origin that identify with the Muslim faith.

  • Because of the diverse background of the OBRF team and volunteers, the foundation has built expertise in understanding spiritual, cultural, social, political, and economical norms of our local communities.

  • This deep understanding is allowing OBRF to contribute positively, bridging gaps, and connecting communities in effective, sustainable, and non-partisan ways.

  • OBRF has provided sensitivity trainings to more than 300 organizations.

Victoria Police Department (VicPD)

OBRF engages public service entities, like the VicPD. OBRF provides workshops about the Muslim and immigrant communities to police chiefs through the Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee (GVPDAC). Additionally, OBRF offered training to new police recruits through the VicPD "Before the Badge" program. The OBRF team also maintains an engaged relationship with the departments to assist in clarifying any cultural ambiguities.

BC Pension Fund & Public Sector Investing (BCI)

OBRF is procured by various employers, such as BCI, to provide sensitivity and cultural training to their staff, with the aim of nurturing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). April is officially designated as "Arab Heritage Month" nationwide, including in British Columbia. This was established federally through the passage of the Arab Heritage Month Act (Bill C-232), which passed the House of Commons unanimously in March 2023. OBRF provides EDI workshops to employers who wish to inform their staff about Arabic heritage.

The Kensington | Senior Living

OBRF is invited by local institutions to provide engaging workshops about our local diverse communities. The Kensington, for example, invited OBRF's team to engage their senior population about Ramadan, Muslims, and faith. OBRF was informed that this function was one of the most attended ones at the institution.
